BABANKI EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT FUND

Scholarships

Since September 2012, the Babanki Educational Support Fund provides educational funds for six or seven children whose parents do not have the means to send them to school. At the end of each academic year, the scholarship committee evaluates the performance of the children and determines those who should be funded subsequently. Our focus is on young children, but those who have dropped out of school because of lack of money are also considered.

Pius Akumbu, scholarship founder, with some of the children who have benefited.

This scholarship is supported by Gerda.Wieggers who was born in Lichtenvoorde, The Netherlands in 1937. After her secondary education she studied Home Economics as well as Pedagogy. She worked in several schools and Educational institutions. After retiring she studied Language and Culture and also took courses in Literature and Philosophy at the Nijmegen University. She desires to help children to develop their potentials and be empowered to integrate into the global village. She has therefore offered to support the raising of funds for the education of the less privileged Babanki children through the Babanki Youth Scholarship.
